About 150 various cultural events take place in Ukmergė every year. The largest one is Town festival. It was first organized in 1998, commemorating the anniversary of the return of town laws. Every spring an international festival of drums and percussion roars in Ukmergė. Traditionally, 11th March, the holiday of reestablishment of Lithuanian independence is commemorated during this festival. The festival attracts audience from the region, foreigners and residents of large cities eager to participate in an unusual event and give a sense to their leisure while listening to exceptional music.
At the beginning of every summer, simulation of “Vilkmergė battle” takes place in a small town of Deltuva. Clubs of war history from Lithuania and foreign countries revive the fight of the armies led by the Emperor of France Napoleon Bonaparte and the tsar of Russia Alexander I, which took place in this very place in 1812.
A few theatre events, including chamber theatre festival “Camera Obscura” as well as children and youth theatre festival “Nenuoramos” take place on the threshold of International Day of Theatre. The art of cinema is being popularized in the Culture Centre of Ukmergė. The programme of cinema and prevention “Kinas+“ allows to present non-commercial movies, arrange meetings with authors of films and actors. Folk music lovers are invited to annual festival “Grok, armonika“. Spectators are entertained by musicians of regional country bands during the festival. Exhibitions of professional artists are arranged in the modern Art Gallery of the Culture Centre of Ukmergė every month. A unique publication, culture almanac of Deltuva “Eskizai“, reaches the readers of Ukmergė district once per year.
