A delegation from Ukmergė congratulated its partner city in Latvia
On 21-23 July, one of Ukmergė's city partners - Livani - celebrated its birthday.
An official delegation from Ukmergė District Municipality, led by Daiva Gladkauskienė, Head of the Property and Enterprise Management Department, congratulated on the city's birthday and participated in the events held in neighbouring Latvia. Asta Leonavičienė, the Head of the Social Support Department, and Lolita Gerulskienė, the Deputy Head of the Education, Culture and Sports Department, also travelled to Latvia.
During the official opening ceremony, the women of Ukmergė congratulated their neighbours and expressed their gratitude for 16 years of friendship and sincere co-operation; they also rode in a convoy of motorbikes to watch over the city, took part in a festive procession and other events, and listened to musical performances by various artists. The representatives of the Municipality also visited the Arendole Manor near the town of Livani.
Representatives from Tarnowo Podgorne (Poland), a partner city of Ukmergė and Livani, also participated in Livani City Days.
A cooperation agreement with the City of Livani was signed in 2007. There are exchanges between Ukmergė and Livani for artists, librarians and art groups. The municipalities of Livani and Ukmergė district cooperate in the fields of economy, education, youth employment and culture. Ukmergė has taken over the tradition of awarding the newborn babies of Ukmergė district every year (from one celebration of the city to another) from the city of Livani.
