Delegation from Ukmergė visited a medieval town festival in Germany
On 27-28 August, a delegation led by Vidmantas Krikštaponis, member of the municipal council of Ukmergė district, visited the medieval festival of the long-standing partner city of Ukmergė, Bad Langensalza (Germany).
Daiva Gladkauskienė, head of the asset and enterprise management division of the municipal administration, and Chrisija Kvietkauskienė, chief specialist of information technology and public relations, accompanied V. Krikštaponis to Germany. The delegation travelled in a Mercedes-Benz Vito Tourer, a municipal minibus driven by Julius Eimontas.
The resort town of Bad Langensalza, in the Unstrut-Hainich county of Thuringia, hosted the town festival for the 28th time. This year, the town was transformed into a medieval marketplace, bustling with craftsmen, traders and townspeople. Not only executioners or knights, but also the king and queen could be found in the street. The special atmosphere was created by the fact that most of the participants were dressed up in medieval costumes and everyone had a role to play. Residents of Ukmergė dressed up in costumes, attended the opening ceremony, marched in the festive procession and watched various performances.
After meeting the new mayor of Bad Langensalza, Matthias Reinz, the residents of Ukmergė presented their city, gave gifts representing the city and invited him to come for a return visit. The delegation was accompanied by Volker Pioler, vice president of the community of partner cities of the municipality of Bad Langensalza, as well as Lina Kionig, a Lithuanian living there.
In the rose garden, the delegation from Ukmergė admired more than 450 species and varieties of roses that grow here, visited the unique Japanese garden, which combines tranquillity and harmony, and walked along the beech tree top walk in Hainicho National Park, which is on the Unesco World Heritage List.
The delegation brought a gift for Ukmergė – a floribunda rose "Rosenstadt Bad Langensalza (City of Roses in Bad Langensalza)", which will be planted in a rose garden at the Health Park next to the Ukmergė Hospital.
