Delegation from Ukmergė visits hydrogen and electric bus production centre in Bratislava

During the international conference "Hydrogen technologies in transport - ready for the future", held in the Slovak capital Bratislava on 17-18 May, an invitation was received to visit the hydrogen and electric bus production centre.

As the municipality of Ukmergė district is actively interested in the possibilities of using hydrogen in the field of public transport, it was decided to take advantage of this invitation and go to the aforementioned bus production center near Bratislava.

On 22 June, a delegation of the Municipality, led by the Mayor Rolandas Janickas, together with the Director of the Administration Mr. Darius Varnas, the Deputy Director of the Ukmergė Bus Park Mr. Rimvydas Olšauskas, and the consultants of UAB Telepartner, visited this centre. The meeting and testing of electric and hydrogen buses lasted almost three hours. The buses were driven in different driving modes and terrains, while at the same time listening to the factory representatives explain the technical solutions used to develop the buses. The testing took place near the Slovakia Ring, Central Europe's largest motor racing circuit.

Once all our questions had been answered, possible further cooperation was discussed.

The production and application of green hydrogen in energy, transport and industry is one of the most promising solutions to climate change. A non-hazardous energy storage system that is perfectly capable of balancing electricity production.

Hydrogen is also an important part of the overall strategy to integrate the European Union's energy system.  It was adopted in 2020 and sets out a vision for a European hydrogen ecosystem, starting with research and innovation to scale up production and infrastructure development to the international circuit level. The development of these technologies in Lithuania provides opportunities for the development of local electricity and energy generation from renewable sources and contributes to the achievement of national energy independence.

Lithuania will have to transform its transport fleet and restructure its polluting industries, so hydrogen will play a key role in the future economy.

In Lithuania, investments of at least EUR 994 million in hydrogen transport, infrastructure and equipment, including green energy production, are planned until 2030.
