Delegation from Ukmergė visits Partner City in Poland

On 16-18 June, the Local Self-Government Days took place in Tarnowo Podgórne (Poland), a long-standing Partner of Ukmergė, where representatives from Ukmergė District Municipality (hereinafter referred to as "Municipality") also participated.

The delegation consisting of Darius Krogertas, Secretary of the Municipal Council Meetings, Vaida Skinkytė and Linas Rugienius, Chief Specialists of the Strategic Planning, Investment and Business Development Department, headed by the Vice-Mayor of the Municipality, Eugenijus Kuodelis, attended the event.

The delegation attended many of the Tarnowo Podgórne events - the opening ceremony and parade, watched the basketball championship and beach volleyball matches, listened to songs by the bands "Zakopower", David Kviatkovski and "Skaldowie", watched the youth brass band and dancers, and enjoyed a laser show.

The delegation introduced Ukmergė to its residents and guests. The representatives of the Municipality gave a painting "Oak Tree" by Irmantas Kazlauskas as a gift to the city's long-standing Partner in Poland.

Delegations from Szemud, Czorsztyn and Bardo (Poland), Šalčininkai (Lithuania), Fronreute (Germany), Kamianets-Podilskyi (Ukraine) and Livani (Latvia) took part in the event.  The latter two cities also cooperate with Ukmergė.

Ukmergė has been cooperating with Tarnowo Podgórne since 1999.  In March next year, the 25th anniversary of this friendship will be celebrated. The two municipalities cooperate in the fields of culture, education and sports, participate in exchange programmes for youth and public organisations, as well as mediate relations between interested partners and share experiences at municipal level. Each year, delegations are exchanged between countries.
