60 children from Ukraine will attend the camp in Ukmergė district
On 5 September, 60 children whose parents are fighting for Ukraine's freedom arrived from the Ukrainian partner city of Kamianets-Podilskyi to the summer holiday camp in the village of Slabada, Vepriai parish. The Ukrainians, aged between 7 and 18, will spend ten days there.
The camp was organised by the Ukmergė District Municipality together with Likmerė UAB, which provided funds for both the transportation of the children and the organisation of the activities.
At the opening ceremony of the camp, the children dressed in shirts embroidered with national motifs "vyshyvanka" and the six teachers who accompanied them greeted the Mayor of Ukmergė District Municipality Rolandas Janickas, the director of the administration Darius Varnas, the head of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports Vaidotas Kalinas and the chief specialist of the aforementioned department Ingrida Krikštaponienė. R. Janickas congratulated the campers, was happy about the long-term friendship between the municipalities of Ukmergė and Kamianets-Podilskyi and wished them to spend their time at the camp as richly as possible. The camp flag was raised, the campers were divided into troops, and each troop was introduced and symbolically christened.
Campers will enjoy a variety of active and sports games, educational activities and entertainment. The children will cycle and walk around Vepriai, visit Ukmergė, and go on a sightseeing excursion to Vilnius and Trakai.
