Representatives of Ukmergė visited the partner city in Latvia

On July 23-24 a delegation led by Darius Varnas, the Director of the Administration of the Ukmergė District Municipality, attended the town festival “Living Livani” was held in the city of Livani (Latvia).

Delegates, who attended events in Latvia together with Darius Varnas, were the member of the Ukmergė District Municipality Council Valdas Petronis and the Deputy Head of Education, Culture and Sports Department Lolita Gerulskienė.

Representatives of Ukmergė participated in many events of the city of Livani: a late musical breakfast on the banks of the Daugava River, a ceremony honouring young families with new-borns, together with other guests of the city, representatives of Livani District Municipality and local companies, as well as city residents, marched in a solemn procession on the main street of the city - Riga Street.

Delegation visited a museum in Krustpils Castle, which is located near the city of Jekabpils and is an architectural monument of national significance (more about the castle https://www.latvia.travel/lt/lankytina-vieta/jekappilio-istorijos-muziejus).

Representatives visited the Livani glass factory museum, which is unique because it is the only museum of its kind in the Baltic States. They saw samples of products made during the entire period of the factory’s existence, participated in an educational lesson of glassblowing.

At the festive evening event on July 23, the leaders of Livani District Municipality and guest delegations from Tarnovo Podgorne (Poland) and Podole Kamenec (Ukraine) gave speeches. The event ended with a concert of the internationally known Lithuanian music group “Daddy Was a Milkman”, which gathers full audience arenas not only in Lithuania, but also in Latvia.

Representatives of Ukmergė gave hosts traditional gifts of “Ukmergė bread” products and a ceramic vase. In return they received handmade vases from the Livani glass factory as a souvenir.

Ukmergė and Livani have been cooperating since 2007.
